How Walt Disney Cartoons are made.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — How might you say Mickey Mouse in Spanish?
Mickey Mouse will do — after all, it’s a proper name.
What about in American Sign Language?
That’s a different challenge. Spelling out Mickey Mouse with finger-spelling gestures gets tedious in a hurry.
How about this instead? Walt Disney World
manager Mark Jones curls his fingers on both hands, thumbs on the
bottom, to form opposing “C” figures, places them on top of his head,
and then smiles.
Chances are, most people — hearing or deaf —
would get the improvised mouse ears as the sign for Mickey Mouse — even
though Disney officials made it up themselves.
Throughout Walt Disney World, stage shows,
parades and a few of the other attractions offer American Sign Language
Interpretation services, at least once a week, for deaf and
hearing-impaired visitors. Everything at Disney has a name, and the
company has never been shy about inventing its own words, which is why
it has invented hundreds of Disney-specific word signs.

Well, my 21 year old daughter is down at Walt Disney World for the Thanksgiving Holidays. I’ve always wanted to go to Walt Disney World during this time of the year, but alas once again it is not to be. I think Christmas holidays at Walt Disney World would be awesome. Well, anyway, I thought I’d live vicariously through her this week. Here’s a video of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party…
Just a little Walt Disney World Christmas “fix” to cure the holiday blues!
Orlando Florida is America’s premier vacation spot for fun. Home to some of the world’s best theme parks, there are also numerous other attractions such as great restaurants, shopping, golf courses, lakes and more. Enjoying a family vacation in Orlando Florida is an experience of a lifetime. If New York is for the urbane, and California is for the fun-loving then Orlando Florida is definitely for the family. The central location of Orlando makes it easy for you and your family to go beyond the standard theme park trips and to visit both the east and west coast of Florida, both of which you can reach within 40 minutes or so.
Hundreds of thousands of people vacation in Orlando every year; many come for the entertainment. Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World and Animal Kingdom are just a few of the theme parks located here. Everyone is a kid when it comes to the theme-parks, and trying to figure out which ride to take next, or which show to take in later becomes your only worry.
While the major Orlando entertainment parks are the magnet, along with their non-stop nightlife and linked attractions, there is no shortage of other Orlando highlights and attractions. Theaters, parks, restaurants, museums, shopping, golfing, anything you could want is here. State parks and national forests dot the landscape north of Orlando and huge lakes lie in wait to the south, providing opportunities for hiking, trail riding, camping, fun on the water and bush walking.
Orlando is home to more than 95 attractions; 300 lakes, springs and rivers; 150 golf courses; 800 tennis courts; over 50 million square feet of shopping space; more than 115,000 rooms in luxury resorts, themed hotels and economy motels; 4,500 restaurants and 180 annual special events.
Downtown Orlando has a vibrant nightlife, with over 40 bars, restaurants and nightclubs within a three or four block radius of the intersection of Central Avenue and Orange Avenues.
Orlando is bang in the middle of Central Florida which is defined as a “band” that stretches across the Florida peninsula between the gulf coast towns of Cedar Key and Punta Gorda across to the Atlantic coastal towns of Daytona and Vero Beach. Central Florida has fabulous weather all-year round, with mild winters, and hot, sunny summer months, so you will almost always be able to enjoy the great outdoors while your family is on vacation here. Florida also has 150 golf courses in the area making it the perfect golf vacation destinations.
Visitors to the central Florida area will also find plentiful shopping and dining outside of the Orlando area in towns such Winter Park and Altamonte Springs.
Overall a florida holiday vacation can be a very memorable experience.
Are you considering a central Florida vacation near Kissimmee? You can be within 10 minutes of Disney and all the other major attractions that Orlando Florida has to offer. Our 4 bed villa with pool is second to none and makes a great base.

Many people may find planning their trip to Disney World very confusing, but planning is the key to making the most of your time and budget. To start, the first thing to do is to decide when you would like to go to Disney World. Typically, the most crowded period is the summer season along with the major holidays such as the Christmas, New Year, and spring breaks. Basically anytime kids are out of school. The least crowded period of the year is January to February (up till the President’s Day) and September to November.
If you are concerned about the weather, Disney World has a pleasant climate most of the year, but Orlando can be very hot and very humid during summer. The fall is cooler and winter varies from downright cold to good enough for swimming. Spring is warm, and may become hot at times.
Now that you have decided when to go to Disney World, the next thing to decide is if you are going to stay on-site at a Disney World property or off-site.
Staying at a Disney World Resort
The Disney on-site options are very convienent and have many advantages. They have also become more affordable, with the addition of the All Star Resorts. Rooms at these resorts are the smallest in the Disney property, but are extremely comfortable and adequately furnished for a family of four. The room rates vary from $79.00 to $99.00, depending on the room location and time of the year. Other advantages of staying on a Disney property include:
Free parking for your car.
Depending on the resort, you can purchase a “resort mug” that will allow you to get free drinks (excluding alcohol) from the resort for the duration of your stay.
Anything bought in the parks can delivered directly to your room for free.
Free transportation to all of the Disney . Disney transportation tends to be more frequent and reliable than transportation provided by off-site hotels.
Extra Magic Hours – depending on the day - the major theme parks open early for resort guests, or are open later for Disney Resort guests only.
Character breakfasts can be booked allowing you to dine with Disney’s most popular characters including Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Donald etc, not only in theme park restaurants, but also in many of the resort restaurants.
Off Site Hotels In Orlando
Off-site resorts, on the other hand, can offer a larger variety of options. You can find some really good deals and save money. Hotels with suites and even house rentals are available in the area and are a great option for large families and families traveling together. If you do stay off-site, a car rental is a must. Although most of the hotels provide shuttle facilities, a one-way trip to Disney World may take up to 75 minutes. Moreover, by the time you get into the bus, it may just get too crowded, making the journey too uncomfortable for you. Keep in mind that even if you rent a car, you have to fight the heavy traffic on your way and pay to park at the theme parks.
So how do you decide? Choose five hotels that fall within your budget and list what requirements are important to you. From this list a top choice should emerge. Generally, for families with young children and first timers, I would recommend staying on-site. For large families, those with older children, or those that plan to do more things in the area other than Disney, there are many off-site properties that would probably meet your needs.

Buying a Disney Vacation Club Timeshare
By Jeffrey Hauser
Having just been back from a week-long vacation at Walt Disney World near Orlando, and returned with more than we expected. My wife and I did all the WDW things and had a Saturday left over to leisurely relax. That is until we visited a kiosk on one of the properties that talked about the DVC or Disney Vacation Clubs. We arranged for a one hour tour of Saratoga Springs, a timeshare on the lake across from Downtown Disney. We had no intension of buying anything, but we did have some time to kill.
Now, first a brief word about our situation. We are semi-retired and run a web-based business out of the home. I have stock investments and three grown children, one still in college. We have seen other timeshares and agreed they are usually not good investments. Typically, they have many restrictions, are over-priced and more often than not offer properties in places you might never visit. For example, they are miles away from the beaches or main towns. Anyway, we did the tour out of morbid curiosity and the fact that it was a Disney resort.
They sent a van to our resort and drove us over to the sprawling 1000 room resort. Once we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised. The massive project composed of three-story buildings was very well designed. There were several pools, restaurants, fitness center and spa and buses and a ferry to the rest of Walt Disney World. Once we finished the tour, the representative went over the details.
The timeshare system is simple. You buy a bunch of points beginning at 150 for around $15,000, give or take a bit. Then you get a brochure of properties that are grouped by collections. The best value and most flexible choices are those in Florida and one in Hilton Head, SC. Based on the time of year and size of room, you could get anywhere from a few days to a few weeks on the property. Disney also partners with a company called Interval International to add foreign destinations to the plan. There are restrictions like a minimum of a full week and other rules for those pieces of real estate. But Disney also provides complete travel packages like escorted tours and of course, their cruise line.
So what did we decide? Well, the most endearing feature is that it is a Disney timeshare, which means they do have high standards. Even the partners must adhere to the Disney tradition of excellence. But the downsides would be familiar to most timeshare buyers. There is an annual maintenance fee that begins around $850 after your have paid the $15,000, plus closing costs. That fee can go up every year and does, even if it is as little as 5%. Then there is a booking fee from $75 to $95 for every arrangement. If you book 5 separate, 2-day stays, you would pay 5 separate booking fees.
The good news is that there are no blackout dates but you need to book far enough in advance to secure the room at the property of your choice. Another plus is that you use one agent and one phone number for all arrangements, even for restaurant and transportation reservations. The locations for most of the timeshares are good; some are four and five star resorts, but those use the most points, of course. Also, the more popular times of year require more points as well. Okay, so what’s the bottom line?
You could do worse than buy a Disney timeshare. If you plan to go to Disney World on a regular basis, then this is for you. There are numerous member discounts from park fees to souvenirs and restaurants. The Saratoga Springs timeshare lasts 47 years. You can pass that onto your children, without any penalties. Or have them use the points while your still around. It’s all up to you. There are also DVC timeshare re-sales available at a lower cost, but I can’t endorse them because they are not connected to Disney. Do your own research online. But the discussion forums I’ve visited have nothing but praise for DVC and all the various properties. If you have ever considered a timeshare but were as skeptical as us, look into DVC. We are thinking of buying three, one for each child and their future children. They could still be using it 47 years from now and they would have already been paid for. And who doesn’t love a Disney vacation?
